The idea of a holistic weight loss plan is something that many people find appealing.  Holism, in simple terms, means to treat the whole being (mind, body and spirit), rather than a single part.

How does your spirit affect how much you weigh?  What exactly is your spirit, anyway?

People define spirit in different ways.  To some people, it is a religious concept, a belief in God, you might say. 

To others, it is the life flow that surrounds the body, entering it at specific points.  In several types of traditional medicine, it is believed that illness is caused by a disruption of the flow; that the body’s natural state is one of good health.

People that adhere to that idea use meditation, acupressure, yoga and other measures to balance the life flow and restore good health.  According to scientific research, yoga may help people maintain a healthy weight, because of the physical activity involved.

From a psychological standpoint, the spirit and the mind are connected.  People that are secure and happy do not need to rely on comfort foods to get them through the day.  They are able to eat according to a plan, but they are confident enough to allow changes to the plan, because they want to have lunch with a friend.

So, you see, holistic weight loss involves being secure, happy and confident.  No one can give you security or confidence.  But, successfully losing the pounds that you need to can go a long way in that direction.  It could help make you happy, too, but true happiness comes from within.

People have lost hundreds of pounds, thinking that would solve all of their problems and make them happy.  When it didn’t work, they became depresses, often regaining the pounds lost.  Their diets didn’t work as they had expected.

So, holistic weight loss means being reasonable in your expectations.  You can expect losing pounds of fat to improve your health, the way that you look and your energy levels.  But, you can’t expect it to solve all of your problems.

A positive attitude helps a lot of people achieve their goals.  But, it’s hard to be positive when you’re starving.  So, one of the first steps is to find an eating plan that does not require you to go around hungry.

Hunger is actually a sign that your body is producing hormones that signal fat storage, not burn.  So, holistic weight loss or any kind of long-term eating plan should allow you to feel satisfied.  If you are constantly hungry, you will be angry, sad and unmotivated.  That’s obviously not holism.

Exercise is a part of holism, because the body needs to move.  Being hungry or happy may be functions of the mind and spirit, but moving your body makes it and your mind feel well.

Any exercise stimulates the release of some feel-good brain chemicals.  So, exercising for holistic weight loss is essential, but so is eating the right foods in the right combinations.  You might want to learn more about it.

A change in eating habits is the only way to lose weight and keep it off and the best way to do this is to included a holistic approach to losing weight to not only lose weight but also keep it off. Holistic weight-loss is the only way we can experience permanent weight management meaning that we will lose weight and keep it off. A holistic weight-loss program focuses on the whole person. If a weight-loss program does not focus on restoring your health, fitness, power, and resolution, it is a temporary and quick-fix to what can become or is a lifelong battle. Holistic weight-loss is essential for permanent weight management.

Holistic weight-loss programs consider the whole person emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. A holistic weight-loss program consents the client to identify these factors in order to lead the individual on a path to optimal health. Weight-loss programs which omit addressing the whole person have often resulted in compromising your health. Losing weight often involves significant changes in the way you view who you are; this brings with it many subtle changes that conflict within your subconscious.
